First Paddle for Students - Coming Soon!

The team at Southern Pickleball Academy has always recognized the importance of introducing pickleball to elementary, middle and high school students as a way to promote positive physical, mental, and social health among our youth. It's been our mission from the very beginning nearly two years ago.


The Academy, as directed by our board, is in the midst of developing and implementing a comprehensive program that combines pickleball instruction with character development lessons to benefit elementary, middle and high school students; this program will be called First Paddle and will launch in Aiken this fall.

The Board of Directors is so excited to see Southern Pickleball Academy take this next step; it is a sure sign of the growth of a healthy organization. Below is a excerpt of the Board Resolution that authorizes our team members to move full-steam ahead in launching this exciting program. To say that we are excited is putting it mildly!

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Directors of Southern Pickleball Academy hereby authorizes the creation of the First Paddle program as an official program under the Academy, with the following key components:

  1. Program Overview:

    • The First Paddle program will be an multi-week initiative designed to teach elementary, middle and high school students the fundamentals of pickleball while incorporating character development lessons.

    • The program aims to introduce and develop pickleball skills among young players, potentially expanding its reach nationwide.

  2. Program Structure:

    • The program will include weekly sessions focused on specific pickleball skills and character traits, such as teamwork, sportsmanship, resilience, patience, dedication, adaptability, confidence, and leadership.

    • Each session will comprise both practical pickleball training and interactive character development activities.

  3. Program Goals:

    • To provide students with the skills and knowledge to play pickleball effectively.

    • To enhance students' character traits, which are essential for personal growth and success both on and off the court.

    • To foster a positive and inclusive sporting environment that encourages physical activity, teamwork, and mutual respect.

    • To use pickleball as a vehicle to instill values such as integrity, respect, teamwork, and perseverance in young athletes.
